Rhyan Elliott is a Partner in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group.

Rhyan has practiced extensively in various areas of Civil and Commercial Litigation and Arbitration, with a particular focus on matters with a cross-border element, in banking, financial services regulation, insurance, employment, personal injuries, fatal accidents, professional negligence, and property law. He has also gained wide experience acting on behalf of parties in divorce and complex matrimonial finance proceedings.

Rhyan has experience representing both individual and institutional clients, including Investment Managers, Liquidators and Receivers at all stages of litigation, including interlocutory applications, at trial and on appeal. He has acted for many individual claimants and several insurance companies and re-insurers in quantifying, negotiating and defending numerous complex personal injuries, malpractice and fatal accidents claims.

Rhyan has also frequently represented the interests of both Vendors and Purchasers in Commercial and Real Estate transactions and has represented parties, including land developers, in property disputes relating to documentary and possessory title, trespass, easements, boundaries and restrictive covenants.

Rhyan regularly appears as both Junior and Lead Counsel before the Industrial Tribunal, the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal of The Bahamas. Rhyan has also appeared as Junior Counsel on behalf of the successful parties before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London. He is currently ranked as a Leading Associate in the area of dispute resolution by Legal 500 Caribbean.

  • Assisting lead counsel representing a receiver appointed over the assets of a pharmaceutical company valued at USD$100M+.
  • Acting for a leading offshore bank and trust company, providing ongoing advisory and contentious representation concerning banking, financial services, and trust issues following the divestment of a substantial portion of its book of business.
  • Representing a publicly listed retail group in connection with a USD$60 million insurance claim arising from the total loss of two (2) retail premises, in addition to advising it on employment and various general business matters.
  • Advising and representing numerous local businesses in tax disputes with the Department of Inland Revenue, including in proceedings before the Tax Appeal Commission.
  • Representing the fixed-charge Joint Receivers of Blue Marlin Holdings (Bahamas) Limited, landlords of a large-scale commercial development;
  • Acting on behalf of a judgment creditor in proceedings for the enforcement of a USD$22Mil foreign judgment registered in The Bahamas, and obtaining the Court’s decision on a novel issue regarding the Court’s ability to vary and discharge enforcement orders.
