Karen Tyson currently serves as the Deputy Chair of the Firm’s Litigation Practice Group. Her areas of practice include Admiralty Law, Family Law, and Commercial and Civil Litigation, where she has a particular focus on Industrial Relations & Employment law. She also has vast experience in Conveyancing and Real Property Law and other regulatory matters, including applications to The Bahamas Investments Board and other governmental entities.  Karen has also assisted in the conduct of international financing transactions.

Karen holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Barbados where she graduated with honours in 2000. She obtained a Legal Education Certificate at the Eugene Dupuch Law School in Nassau, Bahamas in September 2002. Karen has been recognized as a recommended attorney in the area of dispute resolution by Legal 500 Caribbean (2022-2026).

She is a member of The Bahamas Bar Association and has lectured part-time at the University of The Bahamas Northern Campus. She is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Karen joined the firm as an Associate in 2006 and became a Partner in 2015.

Experience

  • Assisted lead counsel in representing ultra-high-net-worth clients in a dispute concerning allegations of negligence and/or breach of contract and the articles of association, arising from the purportedly negligent management, maintenance, and control of the subject fund by an asset management company valued at €1,201,400.00.
  • Co-lead on a matter for an international shipping company in regard to the sinking of its vessel valued at approximately $3.36M.
  • Acted as assistant counsel for a pharmaceutical company who is a receiver for a claim valued at USD$100 Million.
  • Successfully assisted a mortgagee in upholding its award in its favour against a borrower for moneys owed valued at est. $2 million after the sale of the asset securing the loan and appearing before the Privy Council in May 2025 in respect of this matter.
  • Acted as assistant counsel for a pharmaceutical company who is a receiver for a claim valued at USD$100 Million.
  • Advised a shipping conglomerate regarding a restructuring strategy between admiralty and insolvency law to Debtors wishing to reorganise and restructure their debt, which debt was secured by mortgages of Bahamian flagged ships.
  • Acted as Counsel in $22 million damages claim relating to the allision of a bulk crude oil tanker with a terminal jetty.
