The Firm, established in 1948 by the pre-eminent Bahamian attorney, Hon. Godfrey W. Higgs, and his long-time friend and former Registrar-General of The Bahamas, Mr. Mervyn Johnson, marked the formation of The Bahamas’ first non-family law partnership. Over the past seven plus decades, Higgs & Johnson has worked hand-in-hand with leading Bahamian and international businesses on their most important and complex legal matters, providing a full suite of corporate/commercial, dispute resolution, real estate and development and private client and wealth management services.

Exceptional client service is entrenched in the culture of Higgs & Johnson. As a result, the Firm has grown in tandem with the needs of its clients from a single office to a leading corporate and commercial law firm boasting a staff complement of over 100 including a cadre of 42 seasoned attorneys advising institutional and individual clients around the world from 4 offices on 3 Islands in The Bahamas: New Providence, Grand Bahama and Abaco. The Firm has grown in stature and prestige and is consistently recognized for legal excellence in respected independent listings including, Chambers Global, Chambers High Net Worth, IFLR1000, IFLR1000 Women Leaders, Legal 500 Caribbean and Who’s Who Legal.

Senior Partner, Philip C. Dunkley, K.C., notes:

‘We understand that to achieve such a milestone – three-quarters of a century as a law practice – in the competitive world of law is alone an achievement worthy of celebration. We owe our success to our loyal and supportive clients as well as the hard work and dedication of our former and current leaders, attorneys, executive team and support staff. H&J has a proven track record of delivering high-impact legal innovation that benefits both our clients and the Firm; and in the coming years we will build on our well-established legacy of demonstrated excellence with even greater drive and passion, maintaining our unwavering commitment to exceed our clients’ expectations.’

Higgs & Johnson is pleased to celebrate its 75th anniversary by further enhancing its already existing charitable and civic activities with quarterly donations of no less than $750 to local charitable organizations as selected by the attorneys and staff of the Firm.
